Industry-leading training to help you succed as a teacher

Interac’s ALT training is the best among ALT providers. We have a blended online/in-person training system and a library of materials and activities that you can modify for any teaching scenario you’ll find as an ALT.  You’ll get regular advice and follow-up training to keep your skills up.

REQUIREMENTS

►  Be a native-level speaker of English

►  No criminal history

►  Have received an education conducted in English for at least 12 years

►  Have at least a bachelor’s degree in any subject from an accredited university  

►  Be a team-player that is professional, flexible, cheerful, and energetic

►  Do not have visible tattoos or body modifications that are visible when wearing athletic wear, no face, neck, hand tattoos

►  Have a valid driver’s license and be able to obtain an International Driver’s Permit (IDP) issued under the 1949 Geneva Convention

►  Be under 60 years of age

SALARY

Gross annual salary of approximately ¥2.4 ~ ¥3.0 million per year paid in 12 equal monthly installments

CONTRACT

1 year contracts, renewable based on mutual agreement.  No tenure limits.

Teaching English in Japan

Elementary schools

About 45% of Interac’s ALTs teach in elementary schools.

At this level, the children are learning the basics of English, greetings, reading the alphabet, writing short sentences, and simple conversations about daily life. Many lessons include songs, games, and fun practice activities. The focus at this level is to develop the attitude necessary to communicate in a foreign language.

Junior high schools

About 45% of Interac’s ALTs teach in junior high schools.

This level expands on the elementary school basics and adds vocabulary, grammar, reading, and writing. The focus at this level is on using English for communication.

Senior high schools

About 10% of Interac’s ALTs teach in senior high schools.

At this level, the curriculum is focussed on the more advanced skills, like reading short essays, expanded writing, debate, discussion, and making short speeches. The focus is on acquiring useful English skills for the university level or for use in the job market.

No. Our Housing Department is not able to arrange pet-friendly accomodations for ALTs.

No. A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in any subject is required for the necessary visa and teaching in schools.

No. This is 100% in-person in-Japan classroom teaching.

Yes. If you know your expected graduation date, please apply when you are within 6 months of graduating.

We accept applications year-round. The main placement is in spring around late March, with a smaller entry window in summer in late August.
